This scholarship is my crowning achievement
Lucija Ivanjko was born in Zagreb in 1993 and is currently living in Pojatno. She completed the professional study of Cultural Management at Baltazar and is now a full-time student of Project Management at the U.A.S. Lucija has won the “Step into life” scholarship, a campaign launched by the Rotary club Zagreb Kaptol. This was the seventh scholarship awarded, and in the last six years the total amount of scholarship cash prize fund has reached more than 15 million kunas. During this period the scholarship was awarded to 180 young people, while this year another 35 students will get the opportunity to continue their education and obtain a university degree, thanks to the help of good people. One of them is Lucija Ivanjko, our first-year student of Project Management, who won this scholarship for the second time in a row.
Lucija, how did your story about the scholarship “Step into life” begin?
My friend, who also won this scholarship while she was studying, told me about it. I collected the required documentation, enrolled at the third year as a full-time student, which was the most important criterion, and hoped for a win! When I got the mail confirming that I had won the scholarship, I started crying with joy. It felt great, and the best of all was the feeling of relief because I won’t have to worry any more about having enough money to cover all my expenses until the end of the month.
You have been living with a foster family since you were little, haven’t you?
That’s right, I live with my foster parents who have given me unconditional love and support in everything I do. I have to say that I will always be deeply grateful to a special person in my life who helped me become the person I am. This is my grandmother, who raised me despite the fact I’m not her real granddaughter. She is my role model, my hero and the source of my strength.
What does this scholarship mean to you, besides the financial help?
This scholarship is my crowning achievement and a reward for my efforts! My grandma always encouraged me to study, put an effort in everything I do, foster personal development and never give up, no matter how hard it is. This scholarship is a proof that she was right, and that’s why I’m really happy to have won it.
What were your plans after you completed the professional study of Cultural Management?
I enrolled at Project Management after I completed Cultural Management. In my opinion, there is a demand for this profession in Croatia and I hope I will be able to find a job after I graduate.
Which career would you like to pursue upon graduation?
I would like to be involved in project management and I am especially interested in marketing. If I may be so bold as to say I would like to work in an institution like Baltazar.
Do you believe that young people appreciate the opportunity for education nowadays, do they perceive it as a solid basis for a better future?
I believe that this opportunity is not fully recognized, but there are many young people who pursue a study nowadays in order to find a good job after graduation. Most of us are worried about our future and it is difficult to have plans or dreams concerning our careers since most of us will be forced to accept any job as a source of income. I hope this trend will change soon because young people have a lot to offer.
How do you feel about studying at Baltazar, is there anything you would like to emphasise?
Baltazar is a great place for studying. We have many great teachers who know how to transfer knowledge to students, which I consider to be extremely important. I like the fact that the teachers are always at our disposal, that we have effective and good communication with them, which I believe is a real advantage. I would also like to point out that the teachers and management of Baltazar put a lot of effort into issues such as continuous work, quality assurance and capacity building. In my opinion, Baltazar has achieved excellent progress in recent years and I am happy to be a part of it.
Where do you see yourself in the future – in Croatia or abroad?
I definitely see myself in Croatia. I don’t believe there is anything that could make me go abroad. I really want to work and live in Croatia because it would be very difficult for me to move away from everything that surrounds me here and makes my life complete.
